Full-contact chess

I'm going to need our resident karate master's opinion on the reasonableness of this analogy:
Few similarities exist between the game of chess and the sport of submission grappling. Although if you break them both down to their end goal -- earning a check mate -- they're not very different at all.

...when you consider that, in both chess and submission grappling, the two opponents are trying to outwit and outmaneuver one another, it's not hard to make a tangible connection.

"Part of the game is getting to a check mate position where the other guy has no chance of gaining an advantage," said sensei Larry Keith, the head instructor at the Dynamic Full Contact Club in Roseburg.
